THE BOX

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit begins with a belief in fitness. The aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness. We have sought to build a program that will best prepare trainees for any physical contingency — not only for the unknown, but for the unknowable. After looking at all sport and physical tasks collectively, we asked what physical skills and adaptations would most universally lend themselves to performance advantage. Capacity culled from the intersection of all sports demands would quite logically lend itself well to all sport. In sum, our specialty is not specializing.

CrossFit utilizes constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. Your workout may include gymnastic movements, metabolic conditioning, and/or Olympic weightlifting. Crossfit Los Alamos coaches will teach you how to do all this safely and effectively to make the most of your CrossFit experience!

World-Class Fitness in 100 Words:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds.

 

Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

Possibly the coolest thing about CrossFit is the sense of community that springs up in the box (CrossFit gyms are frequently referred to as "boxes.") When a small group of people work hard together, and know each others' names, and cheer each other on, a sense of camaraderie develops like you find in few other places.
